i am happy that scott used THE
BISHOP'S WIFE as an example. I purchased the mint insert on ebay at
thanksgiving. i doesn't fit the mood of my 70 displayed posters (of
hitchcock, stanwyck, bette davis, and serious cary grant roles), but it is one
of the rarer and more beautiful posters that i will never give up.
I had it hanging in plastic in
my media room for months, since it doesn't have a permanent spot, yet. my
YOUNGER friends, didn't have a clue about this movie, so i mentioned that awful
remake!!!! response: oh.
michael
It's a rare remake that is
better than the original. The BAD: "The Preacher's Wife" (1996), the horrible
remake of "The Bishop's Wife" (1947). Whitney Houston vs.. Loretta Young? No
contest.
Second example: The 2001
version of "Sweet November" (Keanu Reeves/Charlize Theron) has none of the
heart of the original with Sandy Dennis and Anthony Newley made in
1968.
A good, or at least decent
remake? "Heaven Can Wait" (1978) is just as entertaining and watchable as
"Here Comes Mr. Jordan" (1941), but the appearance of Claude Rains gives
"Jordan" the edge!
