The first Christie's East poster auction that Bruce organized was on December 11, 1990. I attended, and felt I could be high bidder on the Chaplin 1-sheet for A DOG'S LIFE, because it was estimated at $6,000-8,000, and I was willing to pay twice the high estimate. As it turned out, I was the underbidder, and the poster sold for $17,600. Two years later I saw the poster again, this time at a preview screening of CHAPLIN. It was incorporated into the movie, and I realized that I had been bidding against Richard Attenborough. One other copy of the poster has surfaced, but it has very different coloring.
That same auction saw a friend and fellow poster collector buy Jean Harlow's RED HEADED WOMAN 1-sheet for $10,780. That poster also showed up on the big screen two years later, in Robert Altman's best film, THE PLAYER. There are a number of other posters that appear in the offices of the studio executives in the film. There is also a 1-sheet presented to the studio executives for approval, for the film within the film (that starred Bruce Willis and Julia Roberts). Marty Davis
