adios.
ebay cancelled my bid without any notice to me. it just disappeared
from MY EBAY page.
however, the "brasilian" or wherever he really is only got caught because
of the MOPO POLICE group with grey smith and others contacting ebay.
clearly, a thief like him/her/them can steal big time pretending to sell other
expensive collectibles, antiques, comics, jewelry, etc. posters
are too unique, and flaws in them are like fingerprints. for a thief, it
is just finding the right commodity to market.
frankly, any of us here, including myself, could pull off a couple of scam
sales and get the dollars if we lived outside the US where the tracking of
checks is difficult. so what I am saying is that ebay is really based on
the honor system. the brasilian was just sooooooooo greedy listing too
much, and who is to say he didn't get a few dollars from this poster scam, and
doesn't scam in other categories?
i will feel a lot better if i know that ebay notified authorities and,
perhaps, a police/FBI, person is communicating with the brasilian now
pretending to desire to buy some of his stuff (a sting!!!). i would
certainly allow the police to use my account to capture a thief.
speaking from experience, i have had tons of problems with ebay and paypal
with unscrupulous french dealers sending items that were broken. if it
werent for american express, i would have lost. my experience is that ebay
and paypal don't usually protect buyers except for blatant "no shipment"
issues.
....................bid and send money cautiously only with someone who has
a good reputation---especially on any item over twenty dollars. make that,
two dollars!!! (but our own greed in getting a unique item is
sometimes tooooo controlling).
