Looking over the new Heritage auction lot's was very enjoyable. I continue
to be amazed at the selection of different genres that are consigned to Grey and
Heritage. It pleases me greatly to see more and more foreign materials included.
In so many cases the foreign materials are far far superior in design and
execution of art compared to the country of origin materials. I have always
said "collect the art" forget the country. Beautiful is beautiful. Especially
these French stone lithographs!!! The Swedish posters will be interesting
to watch in particular. I am pleased to see the foreign materials
finally being more accepted as beautiful original pieces of
art. The re-release French Grande from GWTW is a perfect example.
This poster has to rank as the best or certainly one of the best on this title.
I like the double panel to "Casablanca". It amazes me how some of these
posters survived at all. Especially considering the acid content and the
cheap paper they were printed on. So many of these posters much have gone to
paper drives or thrown away.In the case of some of the Warner Brothers
materials the foreign posters have an edge being in full color and
superior where as the American materials are duo-tone.
Very nice job Grey. I also enjoy your well researched descriptions.
May long live the wonderful artwork of Roger Soubie, Boris Grinsson and Jean
Mascii. Thank's to Grey and Heritage for giving these foreign posters
the spotlight and respect these beautiful work's of art deserve!!!
