But you will be pleased to know auctioneer paused to correct listing to make aware to phoners and people present that piece is graded C minus and please bid as to what you see and not how listed in the catalogue.... And then I think it sold to someone in the room for $300.
Just because no postings on MOPO does not mean you can gauge its quality. What would you want to hear? That a lot of pieces passed? No only one or two passed I was aware. Were prices high? No, in fact if you must know many a dealer were able to procure popular pieces at very, very good prices. To me that's a successful auction.... who wants to attend an auction where everything is high? Sets of lobby cards were particular stand outs performing well, but still with potential upsides due to quality and scarcity.
Biggest Surprise? DIRTY HARRY LIFE MAGAZINE poster around 1200.00 and a Raging Bull signed by Scoresese and Jake LaMotta 2200.00
Noir was soft but the better Leithold pieces were in previous auction....
Biggest disappointment. While signing in for my paddle the French UNINVITED sold as the receptionist handed to me. Nose diving into the auction room yelling BID was to no avail but made for a spectacular entrance. Damn that poster was really deluxe,
However, the IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT was withdrawn due in fact that it was a re-release from I believe 1936 surprising two very experienced dealers I know well. Rudy, that qualifies as a major screw-up, not your usual oversight. I haven't a clue who noticed or how it was determined. Still an amazing onesheet.
