Claude,
You are quite right that retaliatory feedback can hurt you if you plan to
sell. This is why I have always recommended people have *two* eBay identities --
one for buying and one for selling. This allows your buyer identity to leave
negative feedback when it is deserved and not have to worry about retaliation. A
simple solution that works well -- and has the side benefit of not letting your
potential customers see a person they buy from bidding against them for an
item.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] FEEDBACK SNIPING You cannot snipe feedback. As long as you know the item
number the other person can retaliate after the 90 day mark. Either give
him a negative and expect one back or sit tight "as is" and forget about
it.
I have found that giving negatives only hurt you. Who cares
if you give negatives except for your own satisfaction. If you want to
sell and you have less than 500 feedbacks, retaliatory feedbacks only lower your
feedback percentage and it will stop some people from bidding for your
items. Ebay does nothing to help people who are willing to give negatives
and they do not remove those who really deserve them. Therefore I stopped
years ago from giving negatives because had I done so for all the shoddy items I
purchased I would have about a 90% rating which would do me no good when I want
to sell something.
