The fact that eBay believes that its core business
is with auctions is an indication that its management is living in the past.
Sure, auctions were their core business five years ago but the reason
so many sellers switched to predominantly eBay stores is that they became
sick of selling items way below their true value. Before anyone tries to point
out that prices for run of the mill movie posters have dropped and that sellers
should understand that they have to accept less for posters, buyers should
understand that it is really not economical to spend the hours involved in
listing posters that sell for peanuts. The fees for running auctions are
high when you consider the return on auctions. I sold a Mad Max 3 one sheet a
couple of days ago at auction for 0.99 cents. I also sold an
original Batman US one sheet at auction for 0.99. If eBay expects me to
convert to more auctions with these returns they are living in
dreamland.
