As a Japanese-American, I was saddened to hear that actor Mako died
over the weekend of cancer. He was 72. For those of us in the
Japanese-American community, he was very much "our Laurence Olivier."
Many of you probably remember him for his work in THE SAND PEBBLES
(Oscar Nomination), PACIFIC OVERTURES (first production Stephen
Sondheim musical on Broadway), and PEARL HARBOR. His is a great loss
but he lived his life with tremendous courage, artistry, and class.
