Without referencing Judith's comments or getting into a debate about their relevance to MoPo -- I too, immediately zoomed Judith's military base address and personally feel -- whether one disagrees -- that our men and women in uniform -- all volunteers, mind you -- will always be afforded a greater measure of leeway and respect from ME.
So long as they speak for themselves, I'm not going to attack them. However, let's all get off this policy/politics talk, now OK? Or at least take it private and off the public boards. I get this at work every day and I don't wanna see it at MoPo.
And Dennis, while I may share opinions with some of what you wrote, Kirby's note was intended to be private, hence unsuitable to be dragged into public. Kirby isn't the type to take his fights public, or at least when he does, he chooses the proper forum and context very carefully. I'm glad you apologized NOT for your opinions, which are your own, but for taking that which was intended to be private -- and moving it into the public arena. Politics just p***es everyone off and causes more divisiveness on these boards that have nothing to do with movies or posters -- and is more suited at other political-oriented blogs or public mailing lists throughout the Internet. I'm not singling you out because you are right, some members have used comments about Mel aired since last night as a means to "wedge" their own snide screeds about Washington.
And when re-reading Judith's comments about Mel, I don't get the impression she got the full context of the reasons for the "piling on." It was Gibson's Jew-hating comments -- since exposed in his arrest report that has caused waves. The stuff about his alcoholism is a distant second on his list of offenses; e.g., that stuff about falling off the wagon.
-koose.

Kirby and Mr. Mazel:To you both I do want to apologize for using as you said, Kirby "poor form" in answering your email publicly. You must realize that I am not the experienced provider of opinion as you and others are who post a steady flow of emails every day. I have not equipped myself with the easy knowledge for categorizing content with slick abbreviations in the Subject block or understanding the intricacies of privatization. I buy and sell movie posters and other movie collectables. My day is full, seven days a week, from dawn to dusk in filling orders and finding items. I run a business and use MOPO as a helpful source in aiding my customers with their needs. You may or may not remember that you and I had a small bit of business together not long ago. I thought I was using MOPO for its intended purpose as a gathering well of informed minds in the field of movie poster collecting. What I didn't expect to find was the daily bombardment (no pun intended) of what I am sorry to say, in my opinion, "Hate America" email. So you don't like our President, okey he isn't running again, vote John Kerry into office. That is your right as long as enough of your fellow citizens agree with you. I really don't enjoy taking time away from work to write these notes, but I became incensed with what appeared to be a group bashing of Ms. Judith Weaver and her defense of Mel Gibson. There appeared no one, but a brief applaud by Mr. Episale had anything agreeable to say about her comment The other letters seem to "use her" as a springboard for short, snide and arrogant comments about "Washington Stuff". Mr. Mazel, unfortunately your note had the bad timing of being the email that "broke the camel's back" with your inside the Beltway remark about Foggy Bottom and Moral Symmetry. Again I apologize if you took it as a personal attack, it was not meant to be. What incensed me was no one noticed that Ms Weaver's address at the bottom of her email read "APO AE". She is either actively in the military or is the family of military, and in my very humble opinion is due the RESPECT of not having her subject be made the target of ridicule.Dennis MichaelsYes, our way of life does include my right to dissent. Again, your postscript "Traitors always dress in the language of Patriots, during the act of Treason" elicits a feeling in me that you think only someone who thinks like you politically can love their country. That is bunk. I suspect that you care very deeply about your country. But I don't sign on to the idea that any particular political position represents the Gospel according to Uncle Sam. Not yours, or, in fact, mine or anybody's. And you are quite right, we have the vote. I certainly intend to use mine.

Yes, you have the freedom to dissent, and certainly our new information age has provided you the instruments to vocalize and distribute those "dissensions" to a worldwide audience. A worldwide audience that unfortunately includes thousands of cold blooded, American hating (even those Americans who go out of their way to talk down their own country) terrorist thugs. An audience of terrorist thugs who recognize and use our own media and technology against US(A). It is my very lowly opinion that in a time of war, when we have citizens in uniform defending our way of life, including your right to dissent, we should put up a "united' front like the name of our country implies, if only for "appearances" sake. And "appearances" in this era of satellite transmissions and the internet means everyone, everywhere listens in our private discussions.Dennis Michaels"Traitors always dress in the language of Patriots, during the Act of Treason!"
I disagree with your use of the word "purported" here, as if Americans who disagreed with our "leadership" are

Okay, fine, but maybe, you shouldn't use a public forum like MOPO, to pass a private joke. Maybe?!? MOPO is a place for people who love movie poster collecting to come together in a common _expression_ of camaraderie. These are difficult times for our country and for many people. People are dying. People have died. Over 3,000 on 9/11. Remember? It seems, sadly, so many, purported American citizens, have forgotten. Everyone has their private, political opinions. So many are Monday morning quarterbacks. Our representative republic has in place a system of voting for leadership that has worked fairly well for over 200 years. If you disagree with the choices being made by the elected leadership then use your right as a citizen to elect leaders of a different viewpoint. Our country IS the harbor of safety for people struggling against repression. Our country IS the beat cop, with nightstick in hand, trolling the back alleys where rats try to hide. Our country IS the symbol for the lowly in class to strive to become a part of the traditional American Dream. To work hard, to love your family and friends, and to be a good and loyal citizen to you local neighborhood block, city, state and country.Foggy Bottom is a reference to the State Department. It was inside joke. It wasn't an insult. Maybe you shouldn't jump to conclusions if you don't get the reference.
