Steve,
Actually, the Hildebrant artwork also appeared on the original 1977 British
Quad style A... also on some "15th anniversary" 27x41 posters released in
1992 (but I am confused as to whether or not the 1992 posters were ever used for
theatrical display... one of them even has "A NEW HOPE" logo in place of the
normal "STAR WARS" logo... weird...). But it's true that the Hildebrandt artwork
is much harder to find than the Jung, and I think $93 was a very good price
indeed. I like the Hildebrandt artwork better than the Jung myself.
It should also be noted that LucasFilm used the Hildebrant artwork in 1977
on a promotional poster they were selling to retailers
for over-the-counter sales (it was sized kind of like an insert, but a bit
wider and not as long). I had a record shop in 1977 and ordered several boxes of
them direct from LucasFilm and was selling them for $3 bucks each. Oddly, I have
never seen one of these odd-size but very nice-looking posters offered on
eBay... I wonder what happened to them all? I wish I had keep several boxes
of 'em in storage. ..

Subject: Re: [MOPO] SHOW OF FEET -- Life is short... Since I was the one who bought it, can I confirm that this is the only
original poster that had the Hildebrandt artwork on it? I really enjoy the
artwork on this poster vs. the Jung artwork. Although the Jung is fairly
classic, the Hildebrandt has something about it that I really like. Can't
wait to get his one linen-backed and on the wall.
Was this a good price? It seems as though I got it for a good
price.
As to all the debate, I too was sucked in, thinking it a US onesheet, and
when I do I generally just blow it off and try to ignore it - it's a selling
tactic to get people to look at your auction, and though I may disagree with it,
it happens all the time, and won't ever go away, so I just deal with it and go
back to whatever else I was looking at, and not lose sleep over it, that's for
sure.
By the way, eBay did already refund my listing fees, so it looks like I'll
have to relist the item, darnit. I do have a phone number for eBay that's
been very handy lately, so I think I'll give 'em another call to see if I can
light a fire under their butts to get my auction relisted.
