Sad, but true. German Mail goes gone completely
cuckoo with their international rates in recent
years.
As long as you can ship letter mail, it's still
halfways within reason, but any rolled item must
ship parcel post, and their rates are simply
outrageous.
The cheapest way to get a tube to the US via air
mail these days is EUR 27.30 (almost $35.00).
Now, this does NOT include any insurance or a
tracking number.
The lowest rate for insured delivery to the US is
EUR 42. NO air mail at this rate, mind you! Air
mail delivery is another EUR 32! Plus, if you use
a tube instead of a box, they'll charge you
another EUR 1.50.
Total EUR 75.50 or (hold your seats) US-$96.00(!) at today's rate.
Let's not forget: This rate only includes insurance of EUR 500.
Of course, you can still ship surface mail in a
box at EUR 12.90. Hopefully, you don't mind that
this may take anything between six weeks and
forever.
Nowadays, I'm actually saving money by shipping
UPS! Plus, me and my clients can track the
package and they usually deliver to the US within
three days.

I just paid 52 Euros(!) to ship a poster from
Germany (rolled). All I can say is it better be
hand delivered by a golden-haired fraulein in
cutoff lederhosen for that price.
Sadly, I'm guessing I'll have to schlep to the
PO to pick it up myself in about 6 weeks...
Wouldn't worry about the neg. I think most volk
look and see the reasons/who sent it and can
figger this stuff out pretty well as to who's
doing right and who's doing wrong.
