i am a collector, also.
i never sought a separate collectible policy, but i added a "fine arts"
rider to my homeowners' policy about ten years ago. i believe most
companies have this option.
i value my displayed/framed collection at nearly $100,000 (excluding
the frames). this estimate is not based on the high-end market value that
the better auction houses like Heritage achieve, but sales in less formal
settings. of course, i have purchased posters from Heritage,
which have appreciated in value. i need to increase
the disclosed value to my carrier, because the last time I amended the
amount i valued my collection at about 80,000.
based upon 80,000 the rider premium on my policy is about $102.
i believe that is cheap!!!!
frankly, my fear is loss due to fire, not theft or flood (my
posters are on my third level).
my real fear is trying to explain to a nerdy adjuster is that an old
piece of paper measuring 27 X 41 with hitchcock's name on is
is worth four grand!!!!
