I have never heard a 40x60 called a two sheet and I'm almost as old as
Kirby.
Richard Dacre noted correctly corresponding British sizes.
There is all sorts of odd paper out there over the years outside of the
standards we know.
One of the guys on NSFGE posted set of NOCTURNE lobby cards that were
designed to be hung by their corners as a display with each letter of
the word on one card as well as artwork. Very nice, very unusual piece.
Never had a NOCTURNE pressbook to see if this was something that was
available generally to exhibitors, or a special promo item for key houses.
Some people make up all sorts of names for paper when they don't know
what the correct terminology might be. eBay listings are full of such
stuff. I see daybills and locandinas listed as "inserts" all the time,
I've noted French one panels called "two sheets", ditto various size
Italian posters.
A more recent example.... and not sure if these were produced for US
domestic as well, but ALIEN RESURRECTION had a (made-up term here,
because I have no idea if there is a common one) "double one sheet"
teaser. US-printed for international use, it comprised two 27x40 one
sheets that were placed one on top of the other (making 27 x 80). What
was odd about them was that unlike multi-paper pieces of old they
appeared to simply butt together and not have an overlap. Very difficult
to use effectively... and where?

Kirby,
You describe your LOOK OUT SISTER poster as measuring 47x54. It does
not "look" that size. I think you mean 41x54, that's exactly a 2 sheet.

*I had this poster several years ago and I sold it to John Kisch,
of course.*
*
*
*It is two one-sheets put together. The paper is similar if not
the same as the corresponding one sheet. In this instance it is a*
*vertical two-sheet. The length of the one sheet is the
horizontal dimension, so that is 47 inches. The two sheets
combined are*
*27 + 27 = 54.*
*
*
*I have not heard a 40x60 called a two-sheet. Someone might call
it that but I don't think that's right.*
