Bruce - you said:
(for instance, yesterday I posted a message about two-sheets, and the responses it received are on the website, but I don't believe my original e-mail ever made it there).

This perhaps points out what may be a more logical reason that some people either aren't posting or are posting and the emails are not (always) getting through. I didn't receive your post mentioned above, or its responses.

I may still get them, however, as the one thing that is noticeable is that I can go several days and not receive a single MOPO email, and suddenly a whole bunch come through in a flood... and are clearly anything up to a few days old.

It is a very strange thing. Perhaps Scott can (once he's back on-line after the re-modeling project he mentioned) take a look at the back-end of how MOPO works as it's obvious from your comments and others that there seems to be a definite intermittent technical glitch.

Love it or hate it, the ezboard interface we use at NSFGE seems to work most of the time and allows rapid back and forth posting as well as the ability to post images directly to the forum. While there is 280 or so members there, there are many who don't post at all, some who only post in the FS/FA pages and unless they unsubscribe themselves their number shows up as still making up the membership tally.

I think nearly all on-line groups, whether they are movie poster groups or anything else, have "floating" memberships and all have a far greater proportion of "readers" than "posters".
