[MOPO] Hitchcock trivia

 Hitchcock's films until the 50s (DIAL M, VERTIGO) were in black & white.

 

even PSYCHO (1960) was in b & W.

 

why was his 1948 ROPE in color ????   

 

seems so odd considering every other film of his in the 40s and early 50s were in color??
