Hi Mike
I'm a big fan of Aussie daybills too and will back up what Vesna says about
the fantastic artwork on the RKO and Richardson Studio daybills. If only I
had some of my very own!

Hi Mike,
When you say reprinted daybills, are you talking reproductions?
I am told there might be reproductions of the aussie daybills for the
re-release of Day The Earth Stood Still. However I haven't seen one yet.
Re-prints - there are a number of daybills that got a later re-print when
they were re-released for a later screen date.
As for their collectability...I collect primarily daybills, and of all the
poster formats, they are my favourite. You are very correct in terms of the
quality of them...though this is not true across the board...there are some
simply stunning titles, and there are some very shocking ones too...so ugly.
The paper is much thinner than it's US counterparts, but it also makes the
paper more forgiving. if you have an aussie daybills with it's standard
fold lines, store it flat for a while and the folds virtually disappear, not
something that is always true of the thicker paper. Like your inserts
they're also easier and cheaper to frame...can put more up!
The earlier daybills says 20s to 40s have some of the most beautiful artwork
for titles seen. RKO and Richardson studio daybills are two examples of
this...
Dealers can chime in on the value of them, but I would think that for the
bigger name titles, they would still command significant prices...
Cheers,
Vesna

Morning everyone,
Considering no one bothered to reply to my last question of whether there
are any reprinted Australian Daybills, I thought I would ask another
question.
I am curious to hear your thoughts on the collectibility of Australian
Daybills - how desirable are they and for which titles in particular. Being
mostly an insert collector myself, I really like how the more desirable
U.S. one-sheet images are used for the 13x30 daybills such as the Brando
red-silouette international image used for the The Godfather, the German
Amsel image used for Chinatown, the chase image from Butch Cassidy, the
Peel art from Taxi Driver, etc. I suppose the only down-side is the poor
print and paper quality when compared to the U.S. material.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks
Mike
