I gave up on the feedback idea a long time ago!!

After receiving a couple of retaliatory negatives, I stopped giving negative
feedbacks altogether.
Now I either give a positive feedback or no feedback at all.

I know a lot of you will get angry and say that I am doing a disservice to the
community, but frankly, I don't need any more aggrevation in my life.

So, I'm afraid, the new system JR is talking about will not do much to change a
bad situation. Furthermore, the new system is still far away. Literally.
I'll worry about it when it comes to our shores. A little shortsighted, I
know, but..........I don't need any more aggrevation....

Nice day to you all,

Zeev

Thanks for the comments on the new feedback system. I'm not necessarily
saying that it is a step backwards but there are some glaring omissions eg:

  1. You cant rate a seller's packaging. This is one of the primary reasons why
people leave negative feedback but the ratings dont allow for a comment on this.

  2. A buyer can leave detailed feedback on a seller but a seller cant do the
same on a buyer. I think that eBay believes that as long as the buyer pays then
no more should be said. What about those buyers:

a.. who take forever to pay with little or no communication and only pay
after a NPB or
b.. demand a discount after doing a buyitnow or
c.. want to pay by personal check from another country and then renege on
the transaction when you say you cant take checks or
d.. claim that they thought they were buying a DVD when your description
states in neon lights "This is not a DVD"
I dont thnk it is too unreasonable that sellers should also be able to rate
buyers.

One of the things that should concern some sellers will be that the ratings
are anonymous to all intents and purposes despite the fact that you can still
give an overall positive you can then go ahead and trash a seller in the
ratings without the seller knowing. In some cases this will be justified and
some sellers who consistently provide poor service with little or no
communication or bad packaging will find that they suddenly start getting a
poor overall rating.

Sellers who charge higher than normal postage rates might find that they get
low ratings on postage despite the fact that they are just doing everything
possible to ensure that the package arrives safely.

You can have a look at how the new page looks here

http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=johnwr&ftab=AllFeedback&sspagename=STRK:ME:UFS

The detailed seller ratings will only start to appear after at least 10
ratings have been left.

  Regards
  John

Hi, John, from Joe B in New Orleans.

I haven't seen the new system in action but it looks to me like it's less
favorable to sellers. I just don't understand these cyberspace behemoths who
keep meddling with their successful product.
Since much bad feedback we see stems from newbie Ebay buyers it stands to
reason that the sellers would suffer the most.
Most unfair-- particularly to good sellers like yourself and others on MOPO.

      I am a little curious.

I sent a post a couple of days ago to MoPo asking for opinions on the new
feedback system that eBay has introduced (see my email below). I have seen a
great many posts to MoPo over the years complaining about the feedback system
and its disadvantages. Many posts have been highly critical of the old system
for a variety of reasons. It has taken eBay a long time to finally roll out
this new revised system and yet there was only one response to my post with an
opinion on it.

Does this mean that there is little interest in the changes that have
been made? Are all of the people who posted complaints about the old system
happy with the new system?

The new system has already commenced in some countries and I have already
left ratings for a couple of sellers. Part of the feedback that is left will be
hard to trace so it will be anonymous to all intents and purposes. It is
possible that you could leave a positive rating for a seller but then leave
very low ratings in the detailed star system on the same transaction.

      Do MoPoers have an opinion?

      John

Subject: [MOPO] NEW FEEDBACK SYSTEM for eBay

I just completed feedback for a seller using the new system that has
been introduced in certain countries. Apart from making an overall rating you
are also asked to rate the 4 other aspects of the transaction. I rated the
seller...

How accurate was the item description? Very accurate

How satisfied were you with the seller's communication? Very satisfied

How quickly did the seller post the item? Very quickly

How reasonable were the postage and handling charges? Very reasonable

The cumulative data will appear on the main feedback page of the seller
so that even if you have a one hundred percent record of positive feedback you
could have a poor record in, say, the buyers opinion of your postage and
handling charges.

It appears that as I am registered in Australia I can leave this
feedback on any seller irrespective of the country they are registered in.

There is no option for the seller to leave detailed feedback eg How
fast was payment? Did the buyer communicate? Did the buyer complain that they
thought they were buying a video? etc etc.

This is an interesting change to the feedback policy which I think has
been introduced to protect those who are afraid of retaliatory negative
feedback. They will still probably give a positive rating but can show any
displeasure about the transaction in the ratings. Apparently, it will be
difficult for sellers to find out who has left ratings for them.

What you all think about the new system.

        Regards
        John
