Andy..
thanks for such a gracious offer to collect donations.. However, that
isn't what we need at MoviePosterBid......
It isn't that I can't spend $1500 on the bulk lister because I don't
want to. It's because my original budget for MoviePosterBid during
it's first twelve months was $10,000-15,000. Unfortunately, the bills
add up quickly and between ads, site upgrades, bid sniper, flyers,
and even buying merchandise for the auctions has put my spending to
almost $30,000 !! Or twice the budget I had planned for the first year.
That money all came out of my own pocket as during 2006, I did not
charge one penny to anyone for selling on the site. All sellers got a
total pass on fees!! It was only in January I started billing and we
have only collected $168 in fees from our sellers. So here is where
the dealers come in
My plea was not to get sellers to start listing auctions at .99 cents
like I am going to be starting next weds, it was to get everyone to
give just one hour a week to list auctions of any kind at the site.
There are 83 registered sellers right now at MoviePosterBid and just
short of 1000 members. If every seller spent 1 hour each week listing
auctions - which is really incredibly easy even at a manual pace -
they could list from 10-30 auctions in that one hour. If they
averaged 15 auctions per seller per week, that would be 1245 New
Auctions every week and if each seller made just $100 a week in
sales, that would result in just $2 in fees per seller, but 83x2=
$166 a week. That is such a small fee, that the 1 hour spent would be
worth $98 for each one of them and there would be a regular
contribution to the site and very quickly I could bundle up the cash
& have things done for the site - like the bulk lister & a complete
site overhaul to make it easier to use. That is why I was asking
dealers to spend 1 hour helping out
Plus, once everyone starts making money.. I'm sure they will list
more auctions than ever.. it's as simple as that
You give me 1 hour a week and I will give you investment of every
penny MPB makes to making it better.
What more can you guys ask of me??

Everything you say is true, and I can tell from your wording that
what you say comes from the heart.
The problem you have is, like it or not, eBay is the place to "be"
at the moment.
What you need are some big hitters to come over to you. I`m not
going to name those big hitters, as I`m sure those dealers reading
this will know who you are.
I`m sure if you could land "the big one" (and I think we all know
who that is) other dealers/sellers will come over and your snowball
WILL become that snowman.
The main problem you have, is a general lack of apathy. Dealers and
sellers bitch about the problems with eBay, bitch about how their
sales are down, but it seems no one wants to try and improve their lot.
I will hold my hand up and admit that, as a small time dealer, (who
wants to get bigger) in England, I too in the past have put my items
on eBay instead of MoviePosterBid. Why? For the same reason all
you other dealers have; that your items won`t sell because they
won`t be seen by as many as those on eBay. I also know that this
won`t change until I/everybody else change it ourselves. If
some/all of the big hitters move over to MoviePosterBid, I will as
well. I`ll do so in the safe knowledge that those big hitters will
be bringing their customers with them, and some of them may look in
on my stuff. I`m sure other, smaller dealers feel the same way.
Your lack of a bulk lister is another form of apathy. You say you
need $1500 to buy one, yet you have 1000 members. Has any of those
1000 members e-mailed you to offer monetary help? If not, then that
is a shame, because if each of those 1000 members dipped into their
pockets to help, all they would need to pull out would be
$1.50. That`s the price of a cup of coffee from a cafe here in England.
So Rich, I`ll be happy to donate that $1.50 and I hope others will
as well. If it helps to get that bulk lister, maybe it will be the
start of something GOOD.
Don`t give up Rich. This hobby needs you.
Personally, I will say this. I`m sick and tired of having to trawl
through eBay listings, having to wade through all the crap repros,
the wrong items in the wrong categories, scam dealers offering
posters that don`t exist, lack of help on any front from eBay
employees when things go wrong.
If anybody reading this feels the same, give your support to
Rich. Take a chance, a risk, as you did when you first put your
paper on eBay. Put those better quality items on MoviePosterBid
instead of eBay, and support Rich who wants to support YOU.
Here endeth the sermon.
Best to all
Andy
