I have a number of inexpensive items on EBAY now and I notice once again
that people either don't bid till the last minute or snipe. I personally
am a big fan of sniping and usually always do that for things I want to
win. On the other hand, the consistent lack of ongoing bidding during the
length of an auction's run take a lot of the fun out of the whole
process. Anybody agree with me on that? Do you think EBAY might ever
consider making their site "snipe-proof?"
I quite like the idea that every high bid placed (with less than 30-60
minutes to go) will extend the auction end by another 30 to 60 minutes. I
think Bruce Hershenson's advocated this approach, and eBay won't even
consider it. It's the best (and probably only) way to make it snipe-proof.
The bidding truly will stop, and the auction end, when nobody is going to
bid higher. Why they can't offer it as a special auction "style", I don't know.
