One last word on Horror/Sci-fi,
Taking a cue from Evan I did a quick count and out of the 194
Horror/sci-fi lots (up through the 50s as that is what most people refer to
when speaking of the "invincible" horror/sci-fi genre) I came up with
53 lots that sold (or passed) for below estimate (27%), 83 lots that sold
for within the estimate (43%) and 58 lots that sold for over the high
estimate (30%).
Seems like a pretty standard bell curve to me, so I fail to see the "puny"
results.

Taking it a step further and concentrating solely on 40s and earlier
Universal horror (the champagne and caviar of the genre) you come up with 38
total lots of which 13 sold below estimate (19%), 11 sold within estimate
(29%) and 14 sold over their high estimate (37%).
Of the 13 selling below estimate, 7 of them were heralds or glass slides -
not something you think of as traditional Universal horror pieces and if
they are removed from the equation a whopping 45% of the Universal pieces
sold for over their high estimate.
