Hi,
I just went through the same thing. While many homeowners policies include
personal property insurance, that typically doesn't cover collectables. My
insurance man told me that if I claim a poster in a damage claim, unless I have
scheduled that particular title in a separate form, I will have a hard time
getting the actual valuable. You have to list all your posters in a schedule
and have a dealer provide you with a letter of appraisal. I do appraisals all
the time, but I can appraise my own posters. The insurance companies have
gotten really strict with artwork and collectables over the past few years
because many of them are escalating in value so quickly. I can tell you from
customers that have had claims and the trouble they went through often for
naught, that you have to have the titles scheduled and you have to have
documentation, such as bills of sale, photos, etc. to prove you owned them or
you are out of luck. That's a touch job for our dealer friends who has
thousands of posters. This is precisely the reason I have begun to sell off my
inventory that has been in storage for over 20 years. The cost of insurance is
just too high. You can also try Chubb insurance and Collector's Insurance at
www.collectinsure.com<http://www.collectinsure.com/> as they specialize in
collectibles. Good luck.

i have, previously, recommended to add a Fine Arts Rider to your homeowner's
policy. This seems to have been very cost effective for me. Over the past few
years, my declared value of about $80,000cost me about $100 without any
appraisals. Recently, when I sought to increase my coverage to about $120,000,
I was asked to provide a Schedule.

I have just been informed by the carrier that they will not insure any poster
exceeding $2500 except if I make a special endorsement and pay a fee per such
item of about $50/75 each. Therefore, since I have about 12 posters in excess
of $2500, my rate will escalate to about $600. I am not happy with
this............

I am thinking of capping any claim to $2500. I am not concerned about any
event except a fire.

  Thoughts??
