Thanks Kirby for passing this on. The theater on North High St. the Clintonville theater, where the dance studio was is a stone throw away for my house. My mom use to take my brother and myself to it at least once a month until it closed down. I remember we also tried to sit in the front row in the balcony, always watching B&W three headed dragon type movies. The reason the dance studio left. was a developer was buying the whole block and was going to tear it down to build something...I can't remember now, but backed out after everyone move out.
There also was the Beechwold theater a mile north of the Clintonville theater on High st. The people who owned the Drexel also own it, then sold it to CVS. CVS did try to keep the look from the street, but you still knew it was a damn CVS. They were there about two to three years, then sold it to an exercise club. In the mornings, you can see people peddling away at there exercise bikes. There is another success in Columbus and that is Studio 35. It is on Indianola Ave., about a mile east of the Clintonville theater. I believe the theater is from the 30's. A couple of guys bought it, fixed it up, and are now a full running movie theater. There also is a neighborhood bar inside where you can have a couple cold ones and watch the movie. They use allow smoking...I remember back in my high school days, smoking a cigarette, drinking a cold one (fake ID of course) and watching movies like, Andy Warhol's Frankenstein or Last Tango in Paris....OH! those were the good old days! Studio 35 also showed summer movies in the afternoon last summer....showing new & older classics for the buck! I believe it gave allot of the kids something to do and was a success for the theater. Rich and all who go to Cinevent...Studio 35 is only 2 1/2 miles from the hotel...very easy to get to, if you want to try something else when in town...worth the experience!
