Diana,

I was so sad to hear of her passing on the news. I had no idea she was your aunt. As an actress and comedienne, she was gifted and such a natural.  As with Carol, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is my favorite film and she was very memorable. I can hear Dill now yelling "Coming, Aunt Stephanie" !!  I use to work on the Carol Burnett show many years ago and remember her coming on the set. Funny, funny, funny, often with a wry sense of humor and always that look she would give. I remember her as the stepsister on the late 50's t.v. version of Cinderella with Julie Andrews and of course as Esmerelda on Bewitched. What a wonderful legacy she has left and so many funny memories of her performances. My best to your family.

Sue Heim

Diana,

I was deeply saddened by the news of the death of Alice Ghostley, a true national treasure! When she came into our homes on our television screens, we smiled and knew we would see an excellent, authentic performance by a highly gifted artist, and would probably enjoy some genuine belly laughs, the wonderful kind that made us laugh out loud, even if we were alone.

How blessed you and Morris have been to enjoy her as your aunt. What a joy that must have been! It so happens that she played the role of an aunt, Aunt Stephanie, -- and played her perfectly -- in my number-one favorite movie, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Wow, to have an aunt in that film must have made you feel like royalty. Her body of work is so extensive and highly varied. I remember laughing until it almost hurt when she was a guest star on “Love American Style,” for example. She had that rare kind of sparkle that came from deep within. I can only imagine how much you will miss her.

I have prayed that God will comfort you and all of her family members and friends as you go through the days to come. I’m sure there will be many tears, but there will also be treasured memories and the gift of quality performances and real laughter that she left us all.

May God’s peace surround you,

Carol Haire

I am sad to say that my beloved Aunt, Tony Award winning actress and comedienne Alice Ghostley, died yesterday in Los Angeles. I cannot  even begin to say how much we will miss her, and how much joy she brought to us over the years.
