For almost 100 years now - at least since Dada - there's been nothing more
cliche than one or another representative of whatever avant-garde
proclaiming the "death" of his or her medium of expression.  Nowadays it
translates as, "Damn these festival discussion groups are boring - too bad
even I don't find my work very interesting anymore."

I used to like Greenaway's work - up to and including PROSPERO'S BOOKS -
though I'd have to check again to see whether I still have the patience for
it.
