Yes Evan, you're right. I didn't mean to "tar by omission" other dealers whose
inventories come from collectors. I should've added the names of
dealer/collectors who've done combo cash and poster trades that allowed me to
acquire stuff I want. I used to do a lot of that, esp. with a guy who no
longer deals anymore, Herbert Ross here in San Diego. Sellers with big upscale
clients with shops in London, L.A. and New York have their overheads, but the
few attempts I've made to sell premium material have not been greeted warmly.
(Hence the reason I've had better success selling to pure collectors, e.g.,
Doug Taylor comes immediately to mind.) I understand the dynamics of dealer
mark-ups but those with whom I've dealt weren't willing to give me at least 50%
of what they planned to sell it. I know it shouldn't matter to me because
you're supposed to look forward and never look back when you complete a sale,
but I'm not a full-time dealer of paper -- hence I admit that it's a mix of
naivete and hubris on my part when I say that a dealer marking up my stuff 100%
of what they pay me -- seems fair to me...

Bruce Hershenson and ConsigningTo: [email protected]

I agree with you David even though I have never consigned to THE BRUCE before,
but have only heard praises from those which I know personally who have
consigned to him. (I have bought from him and learned how to properly pack my
posters based on his methods) I do intend to consign to Bruce in the near
future as I just do not have my act together in the impressive and professional
manner in which the Hershenson productions are operated and I cannot seem to
dedicate enough of my personal time to sell all that I would love to sell.

I do however wish to mention that not all dealers are as horrible and unfair as
you seem to allude to when it comes to selling your items to them. I have sold
several wonderful posters to dealers who contribute regularly to this list and
would like to extend my praises to 2 in particular who have treated me very
fairly in all our dealings. These two dealers which I commend for their honest
and fair dealings are Sam Sarowitz of Posteritati in New York and Kirby
McDaniel of Movie Art in Austin, Texas. I am sure there are others, but these 2
stand out in my mind. Both deal with very upscale clients and can pay more for
good posters when they have a call for them. By all means, if you have
something they are looking for and you consider parting with it, give them a
shot... you may be happily surprised. Evan Bernstein Ebay seller:
