Hi Channing,
There was a "pool room" scene in the original ~4 hour cut of the film but it
happily didn't involve Dorothy being tied to a pool table. The scene in the
screenplay has Frank beating up a guy who didn't sew up the pockets in his
jacket, leading to the loss of his precious ear. I think the 2 panel artist
was just letting his...erm...fertile imagination run wild. On a side note, the
scene is also depicted in one of the locandinas (here's a link to my copy:
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o90/oldposterho/posters/velutoblu-pb1.jpg ).
I think it's a possibility that the Italians *might* have seen a different
cut since it was Dino ("When the fish die, nobody cry. When the monkey die,
people cry.") de Laurentis who handled the distribution, although I kinda doubt
it. I suspect they just had earlier access to potential press material and
decided to run with one of the "action scenes" for the locandinas, even though
the scene had already been cut. The entire is set is quite lurid. Just a
theory though. Hth.

I am currently selling an Italian poster for David Lynch's BLUE VELVET.
The poster is a really disturbing, sick image of a woman tied to a
pool table. It appears she has been assaulted and the artwork is
pretty graphic. I was wondering if anyone on MOPO knows the story
behind this artwork. Was there a scene or scenes in the Italian
release of this film that included such a situation? Was it simply a
sleazy ad campaign designed to make the film look like a slasher film
and no such scene existed? I haven't seen the movie in years but I do
remember there was something about Isabella Rossellini's character
being attacked but I believe it occurred off-screen. Any help with
this would be appreciated. The item number on EBAY is #140189460297.
Thanks, Channing Thomson
