Nope nope nope....I'm not a slab boy either....I think slabbing is fine
for the material that was mass produced for public consumption where
there are bound to be condition criteria....comic books, baseball cards,
and whatnots...not lobby cards or heaven forbid one sheets. If
slabbing becomes predominate in our hobby then our hobby will be
controlled by a few individuals who do the slabbing and no longer by the
people who care about the hobby. Does this hobby really need a bunch of
condition freaks running around, touting hey, my "Bride of Frankenstein"
title card is rated higher then yours. Give me a
break.....besides...slabbing is nothing more than lamination with a
number...they would look like a feakin' placemat. No thanks. Oh and
another thing....like with comic books once they are slabbed you can no
longer enjoy them....whooo just the cover....so are we going to do same
thing here....hey this set of lobby cards is slabbed and rated
c-9...sure you can only see the title card...just trust me....the other
cards are just as nice...but don't open it to check...trust me.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] FA: Should all sellers of lobby cards identify if
they have ANY restoration at all?

I wouldn't presume to answer for bruce...obviously two issues here
desirability of slabbing and what constitutes restoration...hmmm i see a
potential flood of e-mail as the regulars weigh in...my short thoughts..
i don't think tape on the back of a card is restoration...tape is
usually removed in the process of restoration...just to be absurd and a
bit comical if your sending lobby cards to some unkown third world
country for restoration maybe applying tape to tears is as good as it
gets...onto the slabbing i would be vey surprised if people in the hobby
especially those who are collectors as well as dealers( many of who i
assume are).would embrace it...so many questions would arise..whose
doing the grading..unifromity of criteria etc...bruce's auctions always
say what we call vg -fine are often called near mint by others etc..and
i'm a touchy feely person i like to touch the paper..i have a few
laminated (not slabbing) inserts that are absolutely pristine..they look
fine in a frame on the wall and yes i can take it out of the frame and
shake it vigorously making sound effects suitable for the next matrix
movie and it still looks pristine...but its just not the same as being
able to touch the paper( i don't have a paper fetish). i think when
things are slabbed people will be resistant to removing them for fear of
somehow decreasing the grade of the item which i think ultimately would
make this a very sterile hands off hobby...happy new year to all...Alan
