One of the interesting things about being a dealer is when a rare poster
that one has formerly sold suddenly reappears on the market.
Years ago I bought a six sheet for GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. I bought
it because I was beginning a book on U.S. six sheets, a project
that is still, ostensibly, ongoing. It wasn't in the best shape, but
it was worth restoring. Later the poster was sold through the good
offices of Cinemonde, San Francisco. My recollection is that we sold
it for $3500.00. This was the early to mid eighties. But before I sold
it, I had the poster backed - probably by Garo - and a transparency made
of it. Afterwards, something interesting happened: a company making a
laser disc asked to use the transparency for the sleeve. They agreed to
credit Cinemonde and MovieArt. I still have two copies of the Laser
Disc
sleeve. I actually thought about putting one of these sleeves on
ebay the other day
since the art for the poster is very rare.
Now the poster itself has turned up in Hake's auction, with an
opening bid of $15,000. The poster was worn, and Hake's
has so stated in their listing. Still one of the most interesting
animation six sheets. I don't recall that this has been seen
since I sold it, but I could be wrong. Too many auctions
since then.
