Hi Zeev, I just took a quick snap of it for you with my phonecam so apologies
about the grainy 2MB quality and angle, but I hope you get the idea! I much
prefer it to the German Hitler/Egg version that i also have. What do you
think? Cheers, Neil

Can you send us an image of this Russian "To Be Or Not To Be"?

 I would be very interested.

 Thanks, Zeev

I have a Russian poster for "To Be Or Not To Be" for the first Russian
release in 1963, which I think has the smartest art of any I have seen for
this film: Benny's Hamlet costume on a clothes hangar with a nazi cap
propped on top. Like a lot of the best Russian poster art it's an elegant
halfway house between the literalism of the western versions and the
sometimes screamingly obtuse [but fun] mittel-european stuff [the Polish
poster for "After Hours" springs to mind]. The other great joy of Russian
posters is that the bottom margin has a wealth of fascinating production
data that doesn't quite run to listing the poster designer's blood type and
social security number but comes close! Cheers, Neil

them last year.. you clearly don't watch MPB

also, within certain parameters, it is illegal to ship pre-1960
posters out of Russia

another factor may be that most Russian posters are of films that we
know nothing about - so there is a lack of interest
