ANNOUNCING - NEW LAMP BOOKLET ENTITLED
LEGALITY OF U.S. MOVIE POSTERS - A QUICK STUDY
This new LAMP Booklet was designed to be released for the movie
poster conventions that we will be attending this year. We had
planned to make an announcement in next month's newsletter that it
was available on the site. But since our newsletter is running
late this month and our first show starts next week, we thought we
would go ahead and announce it in this newsletter instead. This
booklet is in response to numerous questions we have received
relating to a variety of legal questions associated with
ownership, buying and selling of movie posters.
This new LAMP Booklet covers the following topics:
* Studio Production Process
* Special Photographers
* Copyright Office
* Poster Exchanges
* Poster Tags and Language
* National Screen Service
* Liquidation of Poster Exchanges
* Collapse of NSS
* First Sale Doctrine
These booklets are now available. If you are planning to attend
the Hollywood Collectors Show in Chicago next weekend, you can
come by the LAMP Exhibit to purchase your copy. Cost of the
booklet is $20.00. For anyone wanting to purchase on line, the
cost is $20.00 and we will include shipping in the United States;
$25.00 including shipping OUTSIDE the United States. We have not
had a chance to make an information page on this booklet and won't
until we return from the Chicago show. However, any orders we
receive this week will be shipped before we leave for Chicago mid
next week.

BRUCE HERSHENSON ANNOUNCES PLANS TO LEAVE EBAY
After years of a hugely successful reign as one of eBay's top
Power Sellers, Bruce Hershenson has announced his plans to leave
eBay and start his own auction site. Bruce explained his reasons
in his latest email club mailout. Here is part of his announcement:
I want to get out from under the restrictive eBay set-up,
where everything has to be done exactly according to their
rules, and ALL sellers live under the constant fear that they
will break one of eBay's endless and ever-changing rules and
enter the Kafka-esque eBay world where you are guilty until
proven innocent, and where they try to micro-manage EVERY
aspect of the seller's business, from how much you can charge
for shipping, to what kinds of posters you can sell, and I am
weary of the endless squabbling that I, and my customers do
with eBay on a regular basis!
I want to expand the ability to bid during auctions, because I
have never liked eBay's "fixed time ending" format, and
neither do many bidders, for they are often left with the
feeling that items are "snatched away from them" in the final
seconds, and that they would like the chance to bid again. My
new site will offer the bidder extended time billing, WHICH IS
USED BY EVERY OTHER ONLINE AND LIVE AUCTION COMPANY OTHER THAN
EBAY! This means that if you want a certain poster you don?t
have to worry about sniping or being outbid with one second
left. Under the new system once the lot listed has reached the
closing time, it will stay open for bidding until a certain
time has passed without a bid, BUT ONLY IF A BID WAS PLACED IN
THE FINAL TEN MINUTES FOR THAT PARTICULAR ITEM. This allows
two or more bidders to stay with the auction until one
collector decides to stop bidding, not when a clock dictates,
WHICH IS CURRENTLY HOW IT IS WITH EVERY OTHER ONLINE AND LIVE
AUCTION COMPANY OTHER THAN EBAY!

OUR NEW BOOK, COLLECTING INTERNATIONAL
MOVIE POSTERS, HAS BEEN DELAYED
We know that many of you are anxiously awaiting the release of our
new book, Collecting International Movie Posters. Although it was
our plan to release the book in February, due to some delay
problems in getting the initial proof to the printer, and some
quality problems after that, it now looks like the book will be
released in April. We are very sorry about the delay, but we
wanted this book to meet our standards for high quality and we
felt that it was necessary to delay the book to achieve it.

Be sure to check out John Reid's Newsletter February 2008 for some
very insightful comments regarding eBay:
eBay and the "seller experience"
eBay recently announced some major changes to its policies and
fee structure which has lead many sellers to consider whether
it is viable or not to continue to sell on the site. As a long
standing seller with over 12,000 feedbacks and nearly 10 years
on eBay I have some thoughts on the repercussions of the
"innovations" that eBay is about to implement. (more
