I got my latest issue of Maxim in the mail today. I don't know how they keep
sending me this when I ordered Scientific Digest ;-) but I might as well read
it since they went to the trouble of putting it in my box. They had a one page
item under "Stuff Collecting" that promoted taking all your Fathead decals off
the wall and replacing them with authentic vintage posters. They gave 5 tips
(some I agree with and one I feel is debatable).
Tip 1 - Play the Hits - telling people the surest return on their investment is
staying with the hits such as James Bond, anything Star Wars and sexy arthouse
fare such as Blow Up. Though I agree with this in ways I am still with the
opinion to buy what you love and not just for investment.
Tip 2 - Mine the Past - this has a quote from Sam Sarowitz stating most posters
in the last 20 years won't appreciate much so they are saying to buy older
posters (if doing so for investment of course)
Tip 3 - Go Global - telling folks to buy foreign posters of English language
movies. They especially point out that Polish posters are insane in their
level of detail.
Tip 4 - Don't Fake it - telling you with all the bogus posters out there, you
should look for tears or folds which are printed on the poster and to basically
buy from trusted dealers.
Tip 5 - Get Framed - they stated to get it linen backed which is a highly
debated issue out here but they also state to get if framed and protected from
UV rays (GO SUSAN!!).
Not a big story but heck, anything that can keep poster collecting out there
for others to get interested in is great for the hobby.
Just FYI.
