John, Ebay being "unrecognizable" in 12 months appears inevitable.
It sure sounds like they are throwing out the proverbial 'baby with
the bathwater' in order to
'cure' what they think may ail Ebay. To me, it appears not unlike a
Hollywood studio executive changing story elements not with any
intention of bettering the story,
but because they can and have a need to exercise their power. New
Ebay management appears to have a need to put their fingerprints all
over Ebay. And if all goes
according to early returns, Ebay will soon become not unlike Buy.com.
For worse or worse.

Where did you see this announcement? Do you have a link to the
announcement? If this is true you are correct in saying that most
sellers will have to end their store listings and start again.
I have also read the reports about the buy.com auctions. One of the
eBay execs was quoted as saying that eBay willl be unrecognizable
from the current format in 12 months time. Looks like that might be
truer than anyone thought. I wonder what is next.

My feedback is now 74,000+ and I am now at 100%, for the first time
in 9 1/2 years.
And yet this stinks to high hell!
I saw all this coming when they made their first announcements at
the eCommerce forum, and that night I posted my "I have sold 300,000
+ items but am quitting eBay completely" thread on the PowerSellers
Board (since deleted by eBay, who couldn't handle the truth, but
available on theauctionbytes.com site).
THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!
1) eBay made some wacko deal with Buy.com, that has seen them list
74 MILLION items on eBay (in around 500,000 auctions) in the last
30 days (for no listing fee). This means every "repeatable" item is
over-run with buy.com listings, and they don't pay to list, and the
other sellers do!
2) eBay has just announced that starting in July NO LINKS
WHATSOEVER will be allowed on eBay auctions OR About Me pages! This
means 99% of current auctions are in violation. No more helpful
links to "information pages" or databases, etc.
3) eBay just took the limit off how many of an item anyone can
list. So buy.com can have the same item closing every five seconds
24 hours a day, thus defeating the "items ending soonest" search,
and they don't even pay for the listings!
4) Sellers are now 100% at the mercy of the buyers! Once it sinks
in that the sellers can't leave negs or neutrals, and how much
sellers have riding on good feedback and DSR's, every buyer can
blackmail every seller. AND THIS WILL BE ESPECIALLY BAD IN VINTAGE
ITEMS, WHERE THE CONDITION OF EVERY ITEM CAN BE DISPUTED!
I could go on and on, but I think you can all see why I am getting
out of Dodge just in time, and why I said that their massive price
raise was just a minor reason in why I was leaving!
