Okay, Richard, I'm not of the original Yma or Korla generation, but I'm just strange enough to be a big Yma fan and I actually dragged about ten friends to go see her perform here in L.A. at the Hollywood Roosevelt's Cinegrill years ago. Yma is 85 now and lives with some assistance in an appropriately glorious setting here in Hollywood.

Not too long ago she took a trip to South America and was honored as the true Peruvian Princess that she always had been (although Amy Camus wasn't a bad publicity ploy). Sadly, she is not in great health now, though she is well cared for. She's such a one-of-a-kind talent that we will likely grant her immortality as we love her in memory.

I humbly offer up her website to anyone who was an Yma fan in the past, present, or if your ears have never actually born witness to the cataclysmic strains of this Peruvian songbird, then it is now time for you to put away your childhood toys, and treat yourself, dare I say, indulge yourself, with one of the most striking voices ever to erupt with such volcanic talent. This is the one, the only...

ps: I'm a little late to the Korla Pandit phenomenon, but it was a photo on this Yma site of the two of them together that prompted me to investigate the hypnotic strains and gaze that was Korla Pandit! Check out YouTube for videos on his early years.

Bruce can remember the early days of Laugh-In, but Greg...you win the nostalgia prize for bringing up Korla Pandit. By the way, Yma Sumac made a movie or two (SECRET OF THE INCAS comes to mind)...but did Korla Pandit? I can't think of any. Oh, and if we're going as far back as Korla Pandit, remember Princess SummerFall-WinterSpring?

PS: I can corroborate Bruce's recollections of the huge impact made by Laugh-In with Rowan and Martin when it first hit the airwaves. Nobody ever wanted to miss a show. I used to love Goldie Hawn, and Judy Carne, the "sock-it-to-me" girl!
