This is Bruce Hershenson. I am sending this e-mail to MoPo members because I have several important things to tell you *AND THERE ARE ONLY 8 HOURS LEFT TO BID ON ONE OF OUR HALLOWEEN IN JUNE ITEMS AND GET A GREAT FREE T-SHIRT PLUS THREE FREE BOOKS WITH ANY PURCHASE.* 1) On June 3rd, our final Tuesday eBay auctions concluded! We *DID* add new Tuesday items last night, but those were added to our new Tuesday auctions on our own site, where they join our Thursday auctions, which have been in place for the past seven weeks. Just as was true when we were on eBay, our Tuesday and Thursday auctions have separate galleries, so that it is easy to view just the items from one set of auctions (especially important in the closing hours of the auctions). You can find links to both sets of these auctions on our homepage, http://www.emovieposter.com
2) We had been waiting until we were 100% off of eBay to make a few improvements to the site (and many more will be coming in the future). The most important improvement was implemented yesterday, which is that we now have a "small thumbnail view" for our galleries, *IN ADDITION TO* our "large thumbnail view" and our "text view", which we already had. This is especially useful for those of you who do not have cable or high-speed Internet connections, for the "small thumbnail view" loads fairly quickly, and yet the thumbnails are still large enough that you can get a good sense of the item (and of course, you can still use the "large thumbnail view", and, once you click on a particular item, you can still see our "large" and "supersized" images of that item, which are extremely clear and never enhanced). We have put links for all three types of galleries on each gallery page just above the items, so you can easily switch from one view to another (and you can also quickly shift from viewing 20 items per page to 100 items per page, using the drop-down menu). Of course, you can also sort items in many ways, including by highest price and by lowest price, and all of these tools greatly enhance your ability to scan over our items (especially important because of the huge number of items we sell each week). 3) Seven weeks ago, in our first set of auctions on our own site, we gave every buyer (even if they only purchased one $1 item) a great full-color high-quality limited edition T-shirt, as a way of thanking those who participated in that very first set of auctions. Now, in our seventh set of auctions, we have an excellent group of over 150 horror/sci-fi posters, including many popular titles, and to reward those who purchase in this special auction, we are again giving every buyer (even if they only purchased one $1 item) a great full-color high-quality limited edition T-shirt (with a completely different image of course!). Since we had already promised to give all buyers from this set of auctions three of our best full-color books, that means that anyone who purchases even one inexpensive poster gets the T-shirt plus the three books, all for the price of the one poster! In case any of you are wondering if the T-shirts we give are truly high-quality, we have created a page with just some of the e-mail comments we have received from those who purchased in our first set of auctions and who received that first T-shirt, and you can find it at http://www.emovieposter.com/editpages/comments_tshirts.htm . I really can't understand why just about everyone would not try really hard to find at least one item to purchase from this set of auctions, if only to get the shirt and three books. As of this writing, over 200 of the 710 one-sheets are at $4 or under, so certainly there are many inexpensive posters that can be bid on! And of course, there are many wonderful posters as well, and many of those are currently far under the prices they regularly sell for, so those are worth checking out as well. 4) For the first time in quite some time, we had a problem with our website server. On the night of June 2nd, the server's hard drive failed, and our site was off-line for approximately 12 hours, and once we were back online, we had to restore many features of the site. There was one casualty, which was part of the e-mail club (mostly the weekly polls), and we will see what we can do about that in the next couple of days. The only significant problem of this outage was that we received no e-mails during that 12 hour downtime, and those e-mails are likely lost forever, so if you sent us an e-mail during that time, you need to re-send it (and if you sent us an e-mail around that time, and have not heard back from us, it is better to be safe than sorry, and you should re-send that e-mail). Other than the above issues, there were no problems with the outage, and we have now restored 99% of the website to how it was prior to the failure, and our auctions that closed on June 3rd were not affected. We very much apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced by this outage (it is fortunate that most of it occurred during the middle of the night in most of the United States), but these kinds of things happen in this new Internet world, and all we can do is work very hard to fix such problems when they occur. 5) Pretty much by coincidence, our leaving eBay coincided with our receiving publicity all over the Internet! Business Week magazine was doing a story on the "death of eBay auctions", and they realized that eMoviePoster.com leaving eBay helped reinforce their thesis, so they extensively interviewed me for their story, and their online version of the story appeared on the Internet the very day that our final eBay auctions ended! The story can be found at http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/jun2008/tc2008062_112762.htm, and it has been circulated widely all over the Internet, mostly because "the death of eBay auctions" is a hot topic, and this has resulted in a huge amount of free publicity for eMoviePoster.com. Of course, we in no way feel that Internet auctions are dying, just eBay auctions, but we had no control over what they wrote in the article. The print edition of the magazine will appear next week, and we are told it will include a photo of Bruce Hershenson (signed copies will be available on our website... only kidding!). I hope you will try to carefully read what is above, as it includes much useful information, but if you can't do that, please at least try to scan it. We really are extremely happy to be completely separated from eBay, and we are 100% certain it will allow us to make our auctions better than ever, and of course, we are saving a lot on eBay fees, and we are directly passing much of that savings on to our customers, in the nature of free bonuses, and reduced shipping (for example, in our window cards/French one-panel set of auctions which started last night, we are only charging $10 U.S. shipping instead of $15, which we charged on eBay, which will cost us well over $1000, and it means we will send almost all U.S. packages for under the cost of shipping! We also are giving FIVE free Universal Masterprints to every purchaser from these auctions, instead of the 3 we had been giving, and we are almost out of these masterprints, so we are giving some of the best ones! Best of luck to those of you who bid on items in our Halloween in June one-sheet auctions that close on June 5th or in our window card and French one-panel set of auctions that close on June 10th.
