Hi, MoPoers,
I have been in France (based in Ste. Mere Eglise in Normandy most of
the time) working on a film to be directed by noted film Military
Advisor, Dale Dye since June 3rd. The film is called NO BETTER PLACE
TO DIE and documents the taking and holding of the bridge at La Fiere
by U.S. Paratroopers who took the pivotal bridge to allow the
movement of troops arriving on June 6th at Omaha and Utah beaches.
Think SAVING PRIVATE RYAN in feel or Band of Brothers focused on a
very specific and very bloody battle. All of you familiar with THE
LONGEST DAY will recognize Ste. Mere Eglise as the spot where the
Paratrooper John Steele got hung up by his parachute on the town
clocktower. They keep a mannequin in full regalia dangling by a
parachute on the clocktower. As a side note, it is astounding how
often we malign the French while they so revere the U.S. and honor us
with such appreciation and hold us in such high esteem for the U.S.
efforts and sacrifice to free them from the Germans.
Now to get 'on topic,' I will be home for a few weeks then back for a
few months (July/August/Sept) and I am wondering when I get into
Paris or elsewhere, can anyone give me any tips on where to go poster
shopping in France?
Thanks for any help/advice in advance.
