There is a great special feature on the DVD of "3:10 to Yuma" which talks about
the Gatling Gun they used during the filming of the move. Myself, I enjoyed
the film -- your milage may vary.

On the poster front -- I was recently in Paris, and the metro was plastered
with "3:10 to Yuma" posters -- to which my son (who is 11) asked, "Shouldn't
they say 15:10 to Yuma"?

When I first saw a Civil War movie with a Gatling gun, I too thought it was
likely an anachronism. But it actually WAS invented by Dr. Richard J. Gatling
in 1861, and WAS used by the North in the Civil War (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatling_gun )

Basically, the first Gatling gun was a bunch of rifles rigged together in a
circle, and you turned a crank and the rifles all started firing. Naturally
this was a huge improvement in warfare, but because the new invention had lots
of bugs in it, that weren't perfected for years, it did not play a big part in
the winning of the war.

I saw an Italian Western from the sixties with Telly Savalas in which there was
an extensive use of a "gatling gun" during the Civil War out West. The film
was called, A REASON TO LIVE, A REASON TO DIE. Does anyone know if there would
have been gatling guns out West at that time during the Civil War?
