MessageI was going to pursue the Fleabay fixing of these star ratings so that few sellers could ever achieve so-called discount status, Franc, but I figured that for most MOPOers (apart from the lurking-never-post-dealer-fraternity) it would mean little to most people here.
It is openly discussed on the various boards that Fleabay Powersellers have set up to discuss such issues. The mechanisms are already clearly in place so that a fee can be set up and charged for one's listings to actually show in the search engines. The way the company is trying to rid itself of "small sellers"- except for the newcomers who see GEE, I CAN SELL STUFF ON FLEABAY AND MAKE SOME MONEY - is utterly bizarre, but I suspect has more to do with the fact that after November when their buddies are no longer in power, that the big hammer will fall on the company in many ways and from many directions. I for one, NEVER keep more than a couple of bucks in my PP account at any given time. Excellent analysis, Phil but there's one item you left out: Ebay has now made a big deal about how it offers dealers with excellent feedback reductions in their final value commissions. However with buyers checking off these boxes indiscriminately as you indicated below, it becomes virtually impossible to achieve a feedback rating that allows you to qualify for these discounts. As proof I offer my own Ebay feedback score: it is 100% positive feedback and because some buyers checked off average shipping or very good instead of excellent communication I will never achieve the weighted average I need to qualify for theses discounts. It's all just another Ebay sham. Meanwhile sellers have no way of warning anyone that the person who spent up several hundred bucks and didn't pay, is to be avoided at all costs.... and yes, you get your fees back, but not the initial listing fee.
