hello fellow film friends
because ive been reading Alan's Book Ive been considering the whole "
Critique " aspect...
A critic can develope a genre taste and get jaded.. so I dont think
anyone should really consider
what one says witha grain of salt... because when there's mass appeal
it overides all the reviews anyway... as For Buzz....
well that can be grass roots... I refer to it like "Priming a
Lawnmower.".. once you get the excitement built
it can take off... I was lucky to have had some old school promtion
teachers that used press releases and
promo theatre attractions to get shows going.
..
many of the old show promoters did sock hops, and police ball
fundraisers, carnivals, Frozen woman on Ice, Woman in a snake pit,, and
Carny type stuff..
Then when it was taken to nextstep thats when it became legit lke
Copperfield..
Ive considered this. Alan Book could be a already published book as I
am no literature expert or have read many books by anyone. I wouldnt
know steinbeck from dale carnegie
Even comic books with a complex story bored me as a kid...Howeverthis is
a nice experiment because
you are getting a unbiased and uninformed opinion based on a rough
rough uneducated viewpoint.
I did have a knack in my Biz for senseing Films that would succeed years
ago because of the Buzz i would hear from Moviegoers, the responce to
the previews, the trades and industry buzz...and my gut feeling
At same time some films would be kept under wraps until they opened and
so little was known.
With any product or movie.. some genres have critical success yet dont
"put asses in seats" or sell popcorn.. so thinking as a exhibitor I
would stick with crow pleasers... yet to season with art films can work
like Memento or cinema paradisio
The film industry has shot itself in the foot as i see it with so many
screeens and so little good product.
they have essentially done what the Big 3 did in Detroit... to much cost
for little output..
makes no fiscal sense...
Now if Rodreguiz , sam Raimi, and peter Jackson can make some small
budget and good films..
eve n Kevin smith and Tarentino... then we coud see a new revolotion in
film....
and if someon can make some films that explore all ages and genres of a
story like Eastwood has done
and Robert redford and even Rob Reiner and Ron Howard.. they are all
quality and kick butt...
I see a need to work seasoned veterns that have personality depth... the
storys would not be so trite and one dimentional.. many of the 40-70
actors still have some act in them...... Not to say they dont need some
GQ and Hot babes/// However its getty silly seeing 20 year olds trying
to be women with depth...
no insult but it takes time to ripen by years of hardship and
changes,,,thats why they all seem to end up in therapy or re-hab
anyways Ive hired a Ghost reader to read the BOOK... Nawwwww Im just
slow and have other project
but so far I like it and think its page by page of a pop culture
stimulation memoir...
bear with me....
disclaimer- I am not a pro reviewer or claim to be..I am a novice that
just would like to see a fellow dreamer reach out and touch a star..
