Besides Hud, (film mirrored my youth frighteningly, not so much the family
drama, but South Texas had a round-up slaughter in 1963 due to FMD,
actually due to the suspicion of a handful of cows in Mexico 60 miles
south.) I
was raising a calf I had named Buster at the time and while yes about 118
head of our cattle had to be shot ( and deer were being trapped and shot as
well) he was #119 and my Dad made me shoot him. I was only in 3rd grade and
after him literally screaming at me about being a man I threw up. I then
picked up the rifle, shot Buster in the head who had come up to me thinking it
was his feeding. I then turned and fired two poorly aimed shots sort of
at my Dad-before the vet knocked me to the ground. My father died in the
Fall (heart attack, I mean I did miss) and I for years was consumed with rage
and guilt.

So is it a wonder FIELD OF DREAMS is a cathartic experience every single
time I watch it? Like every time it comes on. Just hearing the music
illicit's a Pavlovian response of tears.

I was e-mailing with Freeman Fisher and he mentioned he had seen Hud at
least a dozen times (and I know I have as well, because it is simply a
wonderful
movie). I have found that there are a select group of movies where EVERY time
I see one of them while flipping channels, I say "I'll just watch a few
minutes of this" (even if it is in the middle or near the end) but then I
realize
a great scene is coming up soon, and I think, "well, I have to watch that"
and then there is another great scene coming up and then quite often I end up
watching it all (and marveling just how great a movie I think it is)! A good
example of this for me is "The Princess Bride" or "Cool Hand Luke", but there
are lots of others.

I was wondering, is this just true of me, or do many of you also have movies
that you find "irresistible" to not start watching when you see they are
playing on TV (even though you have seen them one or many times before)? And
if
so, what movies are they?
