I grew up in the 50's, and thus, all my boyhood film heroes were the male superstars of the day. I remember what a great impact On the Waterfront had on me, and even at that tender age I somehow found a "connect" with all the rebels: Brando of course, James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, Sal Mineo in Dino, and Presley in King Creole.
When I started earning money, and could afford buying lobby cards from time to time, I naturally started collecting the actors of the 50's and being a completist by nature, I just had to have the complete filmography of those select few. It was hard limiting myself to a few favorites, so the best I could do was settling on these Magnificent 7: Marlon Brando (as you probably could guess by now) Paul Newman Kirk Douglas Burt Lancaster William Holden Tony Curtis Anthony Quinn The last two, it was my thrill, honor, and privilege to eventually meet in person. Now, with the passing away of Paul Newman, I am very saddened to note that only 2 of my childhood heroes are still with us. It brings to mind our own immortality, but at least they left us all those wonderful movies, and in those they will remain forever young. But it IS one of my all time favorites, for so many reasons. Too bad Paul Newman and Liz Taylor couldn't have had a kid together. I would think that their offspring would have almost HAD to have been incredibly handsome or beautiful!
