While I'm not really a fan of the movie and don't collect much on the title,
since no one else answered, I guess I'll pass on what little I know about the
poster...

I don't believe the bike poster was exactly 27 by 41. Your measurements sound
correct (the reprint is a tiny bit smaller than that, I think), but the two are
very close in size. They are very close in print quality too. So, you can't
really tell the difference from small internet photos, you need close-ups or to
see the poster personally to make sure it's real.

Over the years, I've heard rumours of print-runs anywhere from 100 to 1,000.
The middle or higher end is probably more correct, as there are far more of
them around than you would expect if the lower number was the correct one. I
wouldn't be surprised to find out that there were 2 different print runs (and
multiple print runs on the repros too). I once owned one that had been
personally donated to a charity auction by Spielberg, but it was mounted on
board. So, that part (about him giving them out) is correct. I doubt they
were ever intended for the public, or to be displayed. The story about them
being gifts for the crew is probably at least somewhat correct. It's quite
common for producers and directors to give out gifts to the cast/crew when a
movie wraps.

Cheers,

Bob

  Subject: [MOPO] E.T. Bicycle 1sh. ?

What is the true story behind the E.T. bicycle style poster?

The rumor is that Spielberg had made up 27 x41 versions that he passed out
personally. These I understand are extremely hard to find???
I just bought one from a MOPO dealer which stated it was guaranteed 27 x 41,
but was really 26 3/4 x 40 1/2. rumor is that these posters where made for
first release, but never really released???
I also believe Dan Rickard had something on his site years ago about there
being a reprint???

Does anyone really know the truth or strong opinion about this poster?

  Thanks,
  Doug
