Happy Holidays Everyone!
True to my very longstanding tradition of seeing a movie on Christmas (one
of the days I will need to make a list from the last 25 years), I went to
the amazing Cinerama Dome to watch THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.
Beautiful film and the cacophony of sniffles heard seemingly through the last
30
minutes leads me to believe the packed house was with the film from the
opening scene. Everyone in the cast is great, the makeup crew can call the
Oscar theirs, but the movie belongs to the luminous Cate Blanchette who can
now be forgiven for that Indiana Jones fiasco. The romantic and familial
elements all hit the right notes however it was when the film's "reverse
conceit" started to play out, was when I reveled in the film's wrenching
ruminations of love, life and loss that had not touched me as deeply since
seeing DEATH
PROOF AND PLANET TERROR.
