I have no idea what the precise relationship is between Matt Shapiro and the
eBay account, and, frankly, if he/she/they don't want to clarify it, that's
their right IMO, and I don't see why we should be trying to smoke them out.
Whether you own such items or have them on consignment, maintaining
confidentiality and distance is completely reasonable and responsible. Many
consignors and buyers prefer and appreciate a low profile.

Have never bought from. Have sold to, however. Things turned out alright,
though frankly the last transaction lacked for polite consideration in some
respects.

You know Freeman you missed your calling. You would have made a great
screenwriter. While many of the longer posts on MoPo are often hard to get
through, I always get pulled into yours with the rhetoric, euphemisms and
colorful tales. Love it.

I have know Matt Shapiro for over 25 years. I use to talk to him all
the time when he lived in New York and we bought posters from one another.
We "met" through Movie Collector's World. When he moved to California he
use to come into my warehouse to buy posters, mostly Star Wars. I haven't
seen him since the Star Wars auction at Butterfield's several years back. I
think he got fed up with the hobby for awhile but then reappeared on Ebay
with wonderful posters. I have many clients who buy from him and are always
happy withe the quality and purchase.

 Happy New Year to all.

Hey Guys,
This is the first day of a full regular week on Mopo and what better time to
say thanks Scott for the forum, and to hear from our sage and senior
Chairman Of His Ways and Means, Claude Litton.

So thank you Scott for the work in monitoring and keeping going this forum
and I look forward to another year of questions, answers, opinions, Rick's
poster listings and surprise Marx Brothers posters with purchase.

As for Claude's query of Mr. Mrs. Miniver, I cannot believe I am the only
Mopo'er who has dealt this Ebay seller this past or any previous year. Had
their been there would be postings of unusual negotiations and odd steps
forward, never mind delivery.

Several years past I had the unusual privilege of being involved with a King
Kong-sized purchase from Matt Shapiro (Mrs. Miniver being his 'nom de
poster) by a fellow Mopoer. In asking several well known names in the
business regarding Mr. Shapiro, I heard an avalanche of stories (all
here-say most of them) involving failed sales, odd terms of sale,
self-immolating litigation and more, so I felt it was important for my
friend to know this prior to proceeding. That is when it seemed the notion
that Mrs. Miniver may have passed on to the great flat-file in the sky as we
were dealing with his common-law partner, a most exotic and articulate
woman.
So all of a sudden this transaction started taking a Bond like scenario, (or
maybe Austin Powers) feel: Is there a Mr. Big? Take-no-prisoners terms
guided by a mysterious Asian American woman. A variety of direct questions
dismissed with evasive, circuitous answers. The entire transaction
video-taped!
THE BOTTOM LINE: The item acquired was everything and more than any person
could ever have hoped. To say expectations were met would be an
understatement. IMHO isn't that really of priority importance?

Early last year, assisting another friend in acquiring a collection of
Buffalo Bill posters, I contacted Miss Miniver and again in dialogue and
emails with the Bond girl. Instead of shipping we met to exchange monies
and posters in the parking lot of a bank just prior to it opening. My
assumption was that way the dollars could be immediately deposited. No,
after the exchange she drove off leaving me wonder why couldn't have met at
a Starbucks instead of under the wary, suspicious eyes of two bank guards,
cameras and employees. I sped off promptly with the image of a guard
speaking into a walkie-talkie. Was that actually Matt Shapiro?
Bottom line every item in this collection again, fantastic. better than
described and my client extremely pleased.

So of course in both instances negotiations took place versus the prices
listed. So indeed some of the prices listed are fantastic if not all
together comically absurd. But as Todd Feiertag has shared with the group,
when creating listings, he knows no one is going to spend a million dollars
on a set of lobby cards, but it does draw attention to his other listings
say for a lobby card set from COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA. And who knows?
Possibly someone has a few hundred grand burning in his pocket and might
pick up the phone and give him a call and buy a treasure or two. This I
feel is the same with Mrs. Miniver.

However, I have to agree his aberrations of ET posters or STAR WARS point
of sale are a bit whacked out. He has a Chaplin priced 2.5 times the price
three original one sheets of his master works each recently sold for
privately, namely THE CIRCUS, THE KID and CITY LIGHTS. The poster for
HOLLYWOOD originally acquired for 10 times the price less than he is asking
not all that long ago and lets not even mention the Kane trophy all may seem
EXTREME. But if he were listing another genre it wouldn't raise an
eyebrow. For some reason the measure of a poster-collecting-alpha-male's
penis is measured by the length of his Universal Horror collection and like
sheep we all nod and say, Hell Yeah! Miss Miniver's is simply not
dragging the ground.
