Greetings all,
Excuse this initial long first email, as it is necessary to explain this
collection of rare photos that we hold.
As project director of a non-profit Senior Assistance Network, we occasionally
sell Hollywood collectibles to support our Mission Statement.
Occasionally, we receive unique and rare donations to place into auctions as a
fund raiser or to help the senior connected with the collection.
Following the photo auction trail for the last three years, we have noticed
that most original photographs of stars released by the studios are priced
anywhere from $300 to nearly $2000 each.
The high priced ones were in excellent shape, although I've seen tattered
originals from the late 1030's into the 1940's go for as much as $700.
Some people in the business of collecting, say there really is no clearly set
prices on rare photos. Serious collector opinions vary greatly concerning
value. Some of collectors what to buy and resell, while others were those who
loved the Historical and Cultural aspect of these rare WWII photos.
That said, we are holding 78 rare photos (primarily 8x10's, some smaller) from
1942-1945 of major celebrities waiting on soldiers and/or performing at the
Hollywood Canteen.
Most of these originals are mounted, have various stamped titles with info and
written descriptions and/or names on the backs. A few in this collection were
later printed from the original negatives in 1987 by the original photographer
who was notories at that time.
Each photo is well documented. Research indicated that thirty-seven of them
have never been copyrighted. So far, negs are missing.
Most are original first run file copies. A sad but deeply moving story comes
with this collection.
Any feedback or suggestions to determine the value of these non-studio shots is
appreciated.
We are novices compared to those who are on this site. Thank you for your help.
Again, excuse the long message.
Timothy
