Rich and All,
An interesting topic you throw out to us, and one that will depend on a few
factors.  Some who don't embrace "lesser-end" material might say that all of
these are destined for .99-ville or less.  Those of us who have always
collected 70s material with a zeal that makes the thought of a 99 cent Laughing
Policeman, Walking Tall or Thieves Like Us equitable to a slot machine win will
say that your entire list contains enviable bargains (and thanks for the few
that I won this week!)

Rich, I think your personal statement as copied below sums it all up perfectly:
"For my own sales I can say what sells for 99 cents one week can sell for $20
or $30 a month later, and it also goes in the reverse"

I've bought and/or sold probably 2/3 of the titles on your list over the
years for considerably more than .99, but on any given week, who knows what
will happen?  Several .99 auctions I've tried will result in unsold items which
will end up selling later for more.  Suffice to say that your bidders all got
some fine bargains for whatever reason they purchased them: star, image, genre
or just the old completist bug that haunts many of us collectors.

I think that as you said, any of those might sell easily for 10-30 from a site
or store (and the buyer might still feel like they got a good deal even then on
a few of them.)  Of course, some might not as quickly as others, and others may
sit unsold til the end of time, but at the end of the day, I think that just
about everything movie poster-wise is indeed worth more than .99 (except maybe
those mini-giveaways that proliferate the multiplexes.)   But thanks to you and
Bruce, regularly willing to offer material with that starting price, collectors
will continue to benefit with some real bargains.  What the titles in question
will be from week to week, however, will likely continue to change as
frequently as this Louisiana weather.

Take care,
Fred

yes folks, it's about time we had this discussion.

First of all, we all know that there are 2 people who run weekly .99 cent no
reserve auctions - Bruce Hershenson & myself.
I'm talking real .99 cent auctions. I think Heritage does a great job, and I
think Grey is a fabulous person... but even though they do have starting bids
of .99 cents, they do have that $9 min fee so those are really "$9.99 auctions"

Every week Bruce sells lots of posters for just .99 cents each
Every week I sell lots of posters for just .99 cents each.

So what you have to wonder is "are these posters really only worth .99 cents?"

I can't imagine anything older than 1980 only being worth 99 cents myself..
although I firmly believe there is an enormous amount of post 1980 material
that is worthless due to supply.

For my own sales I can say what sells for 99 cents one week can sell for $20 or
$30 a month later, and it also goes in the reverse

I have some customers who really surprise me in that every week they win
20/30/40 posters and rarely if ever is one even at $1.99. Being as they are
mostly dealers too, I have to presume they are relisting the material
elsewhere, be it fleabay or convention/mail order stock. So for that reason it
is clear those aren't 99 cent posters. It's no different with Bruce's auctions.

of course, I look at them the same way a supermarket looks at their weekly
sales where they have an item for below cost. They call them "loss leaders".
merchandise you sell for a loss to bring people in the door hoping they will
spend other money.

I have the 99 cent auctions because while I offer lots of crap, I also have
lots of good stuff coming through and as my results are getting better, you can
be sure I'll be offering alot of better & better posters as time goes one. The
Star Wars auction next week is of course a perfect example.

yes, it is unlikely that an advance style Star wars 1sheet will sell for 99
cents, but I have no doubt there will be plenty of 99 cents items even in that
sale. Items that will slip through the cracks. bruce has items like that every
week as well.

so what do you think folks.. is this stuff just a bunch of 99 cent posters??
I'd like to hear your opinions on why posters should just be 99 cents
