Did I ever tell you the one about...... what's the point? We all know a stash of MEAN STREETS quad has been simmering slowly for some time, and a benchmark for those faux movie posters like GOLDFINGER needed to be set somewhere.
Next thing, some collectors will be wishing they had kept a hold of all those Portal Publications repros. *sigh* - somethings are just so bleedin' obvious I can't believe they merit comment. Bizarre and idiotic says it all, Richard. Mean Streets quad went for about £5k there a few years back, this sale it was back down to 1.75. Stunning poster, but a massive increase on a relatively new item that was selling for $50-$100 only a year ago. I would guess it's a bit of a freak result due to two determined bidders, but it will be intriguing to see what happens when the next one comes up for sale. Incidentally, Christies state it was a limited edition of 100, but in fact it was 300 according to Slater's own site. Looks like price is still no object for some buyers, even in the current financial crisis...
