Bruce et al;
While I certainly have never personally broken the law or done any jail time....oh my God, why is my nose growing? My past transgressions aside; I can remember when being a celebrity and getting arrested was not cool, hip, or trendy. It was a major career faux pas, and while some of the celebrity run-ins with the criminal justice system may not have resulted in total career ruination, the arrests certainly caused major hiccups in some famous folks' livelihoods. Robert Mitchum comes to mind with his pot bust. I also remember George Maharis being popped for performing immoral acts with another man in a gas station rest room (George Michaels is SUCH a copycat!) Let's not forget Chuck Berry, busted for violating the Mann Act at the height of his stellar musical career Sadly, today's tragically hip celebs seem to think it's a badge of honor to be busted for whatever. And...why not? They get special treatment in jail due to their celebrity status, and they're usually out on bail with hours, if not minutes. Without any fear of real punishment, it becomes some sort of sick game for these spoiled weenies with too much money and not enough brains. I wish they'd throw these people in with the general population at the Los Angeles County Jail; they'd last 2 minutes at most. "Paris WHO? Gimme them shoes before I kick your skinny butt!!" (I will not bore you with the details, but I can tell you from personal experience; jail sucks. You hear the cell door slam, you look at the people you're locked up with, and you go into raw survival mode. My last name ain't Hilton, so I got tossed in with some real bad boys. Fortunately, there were enough fans of my music in there (see, I DID play the celebrity card!) so that I emerged unscathed and unsullied after a relatively short stay. Others were not so lucky. It's a bad place to be, so behave yourselves. ) I will go to sleep tonight with a smile on my face, thinking of Phil Spector soon walking into a cell. Hopefully, his cell mate will be a large black man named Bubba, who will be saying, "Come on over, Phil baby! I got a wall of sound for your ass! Dah-doo-ron-ron, girlfriend!"
So Bruce...when can we expect a book of celebrity mug shots from you?

Much more impressive to me than Greg's membership in the Steve Miller Band is that he personally collected most of the AIP titles before many of the MoPo members were born! I have often thought they should set up a celebrity court in Los Angeles, and televise it 24/7, but there would be too many cases just for one channel. Maybe Greg or some other MoPo member can shed some light on this for me. Is the reason so many celebrities break the law with such regularity these days, as opposed to long ago, simply a case of their not getting away with near as much these days, or are there truly far more celebrity criminals now, and do they now (or did they then) simply think they were above the law, and entitled to disregard it as they wished? No Greg -- I never speak for all, but I myself believe that these
    are the kind of personal stories that flesh out the experiences,
    attitudes and character traits of fellow MoPo members -- that are
often hidden -- or misleading -- behind the bare text of e-mails. I've always found your background fascinating, especially because
    until recently I had no idea that one of our members wrote many of
    the songs my wife and I cherished as fans of the Steve Miller
    Band. Yeah, there are subject boundaries made of harder metal
    than others -- we know what they are and try to proceed
    cautiously/delicately and sensitively when we post. But your
    story as posted below is a personal experience as it relates to
    the entertainment industry and hence still has great
    fascination/interest to people like me. I was cheered about the
    verdict before your post (and frustrated that Spector's trial(s)
    seemed to go on and on) -- but I'm even more cheered to know that
    there was someone (you) -- on these boards who had a personal
    stake in the outcome. Best, -d.
