yes Four billion is pocket change in Michigan... I think thats what
maybe just Chrysler alone owes..
Imagine all the secondary businesses that support the auto industry like
vendors and the like.
The region has many good people and many nice locations for
infratructure... In Detroit they are selling Forclosed Homes for as
little as 600.00 yes 600.00 its that depressed.
I heard that Universal has bought entier Blocks to make way to buld
studios.
If you need to amke a film on a budget this is a great venue in the may
- sept time for weather
The only down time is winter unless you need interior only shoots.
Dollar for dollar its a great deal.
Ill be happy to be a local support logists research helper to anyone
that needs a local contact.
Toledo is 1 hour from detroit or 60 miles.
I have a friend in Ann arbor with a sound studio that did Car spots for
radio/tv
and I know a soudstage in detroit that was remodeled and needs some gigs.
Toledo also has many sites to shoot and the mayor is very open to
welcoming fillmmakers
I can go to bat to make deals happen simple , efficient and smoothly.
I could round up locals to get all kinds of supplimental perks and
clearance to shoot in a friendly enviroment
with extras that would normally cost a lot in the jaded markets of east
and west coast.
For instance many business may offer sites in exchange for being put on
the map if used in the Film.
It could raris awareness of a property as a sort of sales promotion of
the area. win/win for property owners
not to mention high end homes etc...

well the 42% for Michigan is very Good as for every 100K for
example spent in Michigan they give the Filmmakers Back 42 K Back
There are stipulations like provingthe costs ete,, and
guidlines... Im sure you can request it from Michigan Film
commision or The Govenors Granholms Office
Plus the overall midwest costs are generally less then east coast
or west coast,
Lodging, Food, and all materials and Logists are eassier , less
congested spaces and you are in the center
of access to about any supplies you need to make the movies.
Just traveling to a home depot or Lowes is easier around here then
in LA or new York.
DTW airport is serviced by all carriers and Detroit is right next
to Canada ( windsor is accross the bridge and Toronto is just 4
hour drive.
So it makes sense finance wise .. Ct. has the East coast High
cost factor and very congested highways..
Michigan alsi has tons of LARGE warehouse sitting empty !! with 3
phase power and the director found several for 2500 MONTH to MONTH
Rent the size of 2 FOOTBALL FIELDs Find that anywhere
with UTILITIES Included.. thats $2500.00
Can we say Detroit needs some cash Flow?
Its a Moviemakes Dream

Hello Mopo...
over memorial day my son and I went looking at Irish Hills
Michigan as we used to go there to visit
the prehistoric forest dino park and Stagecoach stop a old
west town, and Mystery Hill...
Well. they are all closed and for sale... so we just looked
and thought hmmmmm cooll.....
Well when i came home I had this idea to email a director
friend and tell him that I thought the abandoned places would
make a great film set.
So he came up and looked. See,, Michigan is offering a 42%
tax incentive to film there and so he was perked up
to consider it,
So I am helping to get interested parties to make Low budget
Horror films in the 150-300 K area.
The Director was part of the Sam Raimi original Crew that did
Evil dead and Army of Darkness and
he has been selling projects direct to DVD and also Scifi
Channel. He recently did " Boogymn3" for
Ghosthouse pictures(Raimis co) and has several movies in
Post. He is associated with KNB studios Kurtzman and they
built a studio
in Ohio called Precinct 13 productions. The Director Is
Gary Jones you can see filmography on IMDB
A local friend here introduced me who has been in several
Pictures with Gary . I thought I would see if any Mopo
friends would like to get involved in High Risk movie Making.
I told them that I would help only if people understood that
Movies are high risk However I thought perhaps to some it
maky be a interesting way to be part of the process and
sometimes these things actually make money.
I see potential areas in the product placement area and
merchandise and other related areas.
The Michigan and Ohio areas have all kinds of inexpensive
areas to shoot at and lots of locations that are visual and
special.
We have sand dunes , water, trees, caves, lots of old cars
props and more. old homes .. much more
The movie Grand torino was shot in detroit. I also know of a
sound stage that has lights and powere and was a former
studio used to make car commercials. We also have crews
ready to work...
And because of Michigans bleak job situation all is negociaable
lets make movies in Michigan and Ohio.!! ... Jeff Daniels
Lives there and is a advocate of local films !
this makes perfect sense to make movie in Michigan they will
roll out the red carpet for filmmakers!
