I never liked Ed McMahon. Carny hustler...vacuum cleaner salesman...sit-com
mentality...butt kisser...over-paid/under-talented...whiner...
And thems his good points.
I once had opportunity to meet him in person. And a chance to skewer him.
It was one year that NATPE had its annual love fest in San Francisco.
I was stringing/masquerading as a member of the Free Press. (FREE?---Elton
John was the entertainment at King World's Banquet.)
Ed was guest host at the Disney Booth. Accompanying him was a larger than life
Roger Rabbit.
Booth visitors (usually TV Station Owners) were invited to have their picture
taken with Ed and Roger.
Well, free is free is free---and I stood in line for the honor.
When my turn came, I posed with the two celebrities.
CLICK.
I looked at Roger Rabbit, and then I looked at Ed McMahon.
And I blurted out: "Gee, this is just fantastic. The opportunity of my life.
To have my picture taken with two of my heros: Roger Rabbit and Bob Hoskins."
Rogers countenance never changed. Ed's face dropped to the floor.
Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk.
I raced off, with my trophy.
