franc..

im not saying that there isnt a bit of a frenzy as the purchase at amazon (and im sure other retailers of photos, t shirts, buttons, etc) are showing an upswing in sales of these items... i was simply saying that just because someone might have some run of the mill jackson poster put away --his death does now not mean that same poster will sell for 10 or 20x what it would have sold for last week. sure, personalized or autographed items will fetch a higher price.. but not some poster, produced in the 10's of thousands, that one would buy to tack onto their wall or bedroom door.

Jeff --- Over the long run, I think you're correct but in the short run, I think you're not. Fans are purchasing Cds and other merchandize right now because they are caught up in the media frenzy. In a year this won;t be the case, so if I had any Jackson memorabilia, I'd try to sell it now. FRANC

Subject: Re: [MOPO] SELLING MICHAEL JACKSON MEMORABILIA NOW OR LATER? (heritage)

Unless items were signed by Jackson, or were owned (provenance), or perhaps affiliated with him in some direct way... all the thousands of mediocre posters, pictures, images, buttons, t shirts, etc are NOT going to jump dramatically in price, because of his passing. the sheer quantity and availability will keep prices mostly what they were.

will there be increases in merchandise sold? of course. amazon said sales of MJ cds and dvds went up 700% in the 24 hours since he passed away. it doesnt mean that his cds and dvds are suddenly selling at 50.00 or 100.00 a piece.

same will be true of the massive amounts of materials mentioned above.

So:
What should I, a responsible, civilized dealer do?
About a year ago I found a beautiful condition CBS Records point- of-promotion poster for THRILLER. It says MICHAEL JACKSON, but it is not a commercially prepared dorm-room type poster. It's a CBS Records poster. Should I sell this? And if so what for?

Heritage's comment on their facebook page today:

Values of Michael memorabilia could jump 2-3 times According to our experts here, prices for Jackson memorabilia could significantly jump in the coming days and weeks. “One example of this is a Michael-signed Thriller RIAA platinum award that Heritage sold at auction last October for $1,195,” said Doug Norwine. “If that same lot came up for auction today it would easily get $4,000-$5,000."

Thought that was interesting and on-topic somewhat
